Manshausen Cabins

Norway

At the meeting point between sea and mountains, the Manshausen cabins rise from a small 14-acre island off the coast of Norway. In 2010, renowned Arctic and Antarctic explorer Børge Ousland acquired the island and chose to share the raw beauty of its untouched landscapes by building a series of cabins open to visitors. There was one non-negotiable condition: they had to be modern, highly functional, comfortable, and seamlessly integrated into their natural surroundings.
Once again, architect Snøhetta Stinessen—known for his expertise in this field—was entrusted with their design. He deliberately embraced a minimalist aesthetic, a modest scale, and expansive windows, immersing guests in a landscape where nature reigns supreme. And it’s perfect that way.
